It was 1989 or 1990, Felix my friend in Madrid, requested a senior official of the Real Madrid FC to show us around the Sala.
What an experience it was for me and my family. My younger son - Uttam and I, still remember that visit with so much with awe and amazement.
The gentleman met us at the Bernabeau Stadium and took us ( me and my wife, and my two sons Ranjeet and Uttam ) to the Sala. It was not the Sala that you now see in the video. It was the old Trophy Room - bursting with Trophies of all shapes and sizes and made of gold, silver, crystal etc - you name it and it was there.
The gentleman (if my memory serves me well was the Vice President at the time ), explained the background of each Trophy and the final score. He was so well versed and immersed in the Club's history that we were filled with awe and wonder.
Ofcourse the main attraction was kept to the last. We finally came across the 6 European Cups ( now there are 9 Cups ) to be seen in all its glory. You can travel all over the world, visit any of the major Football Clubs in Europe, but you will never see that sight anywhere.
The legacy and heritage of Real Madrid was there to be seen and admired.
After the visit, he took us down to the football pitch and was showing us around when I wanted to walk on the hallowed grass. He immediately stopped me and said that it was not permitted!!! I had to have on appropriate footwear!!
I was wearing my usual office going black shoes!!
As we were leaving, he gave us a football signed by all the players - I believe we still have it; the first team football strip; a signed picture of the Real Madrid Basketball team and finally a silver key chain with the Real Madrid emblem.
We were so taken back by this generosity. Our support for the Club only got stronger.
Thank you Sir for your time and generosity. You have made us life long supporters of the Club.
Thank you Felix for making this memorable experience happen.
It was literally a dream come true.
